How can stories carry messages across generations, cultures, and societies? What makes oral storytelling such a powerful tool for preserving memory, fostering dialogue, and inspiring change?
In this episode of Diffusione Fiaba, we travel to Sweden to meet Camilla Gölstam and Johan Theodorsson, two leading voices in the Nordic storytelling community and organisers of the conference of the Federation for European Storytelling (FEST) in Stockholm in June 2026.
Held under the theme “Ratatosk – How to Carry a Message with Storytelling?”, the conference brought together around 150 storytellers from across Europe and beyond to explore the enduring relevance of myths, folktales, historical narratives, and contemporary stories in addressing today’s social challenges and opportunities.
Together, we reflect on the richness of Swedish oral traditions, the role of storytelling in today’s world, and the key insights that emerged from the conference: how stories connect people, transmit values, foster dialogue, and help us make sense of an increasingly complex world.
