Ep. 02 | Alchemist – Trip Hop Journey
First broadcast 16/03/2020

Alchemist has graced Radio Cavolo with a recording called ‘Trip Hop Journey’ with – not kidding – a lot of Trip Hop tunes. It contains some of his favourites such as Emancipator, Tycho, Chinese Man, Bonobo and Wax Tailor. This mix was originally recorded in 2016, during an improvised dj session for the 5th Anniversary of the ‘Chillout Zone’ online radio station. It is more loungy and less psychedelic than many of his other mixes, but just as satisfying.  Alchemist: “Even three years later, I keep going back to it to relax and unwind, and I hope Radio Cavolo listeners will enjoy it as much as I do.”
Alchemist is a Downtempo lover & collector based in Belgium. He loves to play around with Psybient, Psydub, Trip Hop, Breaks and Ambient, and takes the listener on a journey through different soundscapes. Part of the Psybient.org team, Alchemist has been spinning Chillout at parties since 2011. The past few years, he played mainly  at fire juggling and flow arts festivals around Europe and private events in Belgium. Find more of his music on Alchemist’s soundcloud page.

Ep. 03 | Pierre Obscuur – On A Monday In March
First broadcast 16/03/2020

Pierre Obscuur, in real life called Pieter Dedoncker, is a professional musician. He started DJ’ing as a hobby in the early 2000’s, trying to find not so common psychedelic trance vinyl in the heydays of the CD. Later he switched to lower BPM music and allowed himself to also use digital files. He enjoys playing his sets of mainly melodic and progressive tech house in front of small groups of pure pleasure seekers until the first rays of sunlight beam through the blinded windows.

Ep. 04 | Ungawa
First broadcast 19/03/2020

In 1992, Dirk “Ungawa” Roeyen started running a live radio show called Ungawa!, which has been running ever since on every other Sunday at Radio Centraal, an independent alternative and non-commercial radio station in the old centre of the city of Antwerp; one of a kind in Belgium! At first, the show focused on obscure movie soundtracks, but soon evolved into a more diverse programme, featuring everything from rockabilly, blues, novelty and exotica of the 40s and 50s to beat, garage, soul and psychedelic of the 60s and 70s, still mixed with the odd movie soundtrack here and there. Contemporary bands influenced by these genres also make the cut. For the Dutch speakers among you, try to catch the live stream on Radio Centraal every other Sunday from 6 to 8 PM.

Ep. 07 | DJ Sandro – Jungle Temple
First broadcast 25/03/2020

This summer Alessandro (DJ Sandro) travelled to the remotest parts of Northern India with his long-time friend Sebastiano. Among the many unique places that they had the privilege to see, one of the most inspiring was a forgotten tower close to the palace of Bundi. Rundown, isolated, surrounded by the jungle and ruins. They climbed to the top and had it entirely to ourselves for several hours. They spent their time contemplating the landscape and absorbing the sounds of nature, speaking about the thoughts that all of this evoked. They started referring to it as the “jungle temple”.

They became so obsessed that during those hours, and in the following days, they compiled lists of songs that they thought could capture that place and moment. They promised themselves that they would produce a mix from those songs once back in Europe. Join him on a journey to the Jungle Temple!

One of Firenze’s usual suspects on the decks for Visiting Cavoli, throwing in some beats masala with hiphop, cumbia and much more. Tropical music for near-tropical temperatures in Florence.

Ep. 19#A | Mascotte – MDMA Love Party
Ep. 19#B |Mascotte – Melodic Techno
First broadcast 06/04/2020

Mascotte is one of the alter ego’s of Igor de Kok and Philip Van de Gehuchte, a DJ and producer duo hailing from the vibrant city of Ghent, Belgium. Their first collaboration takes place in 2002, with the first releases on the infamous Lowlands label.

Mascotte’s early blend of electrohouse is so on the spot, it ends up in the vinyl crates of John Peel, Etienne de Crecy and many more club dj’s around the globe. Ever since, Mascotte has the zeitgeist running through the veins. Their approach has always been one of clearing the path to new evolutions in electronic music. Their sound delivers a mix of clean & punchy designer beats with atmospheric, almost landscape-esque melodic elements, building up to to euforic climaxes that breathe the essence of nightlife.

It’s hard to put a genre name on Mascotte. The feeling is definitely Housy, but in their kitchen are also lots of spices borrowed from (melodic) techno, balearic, progressive house, and a spark of electronic disco. The result is a dish that anyone with good taste will love.

After years behind the decks, it is clear that Mascotte know their music. And they know their audience. A dj set of Mascotte contains hidden gems next to forgotten anthems together with the latest unreleased bangers for next summer. Never commercial, obvious or dull.

Whether in a small nightclub, or at a big festival stage, they deliver that positive, trippy feeling. By reading their crowd, and applying the right antidotes, Mascotte act like a shaman that unites and hypnotizes, turning the crowd into a collective mind, body and soul!

This set is a tribute to some of the longtime resident DJs of his favorite Parisian nightclubs, as well as up and coming producers in the French scene, so all records in the set are produced by them and published with French labels. Ep. 26 | Coqò Djette – Radio Cavolo Mixtape
First broadcast 25/05/2020

Mai.

Coqò Djette is no stranger on the Florentine party scene and now joins the cabbage family! Tune in for a new Visiting Cavoli where she flawlessly switches genres, combining hiphop, asian vibes, reggae, indian pop, dub, reggaeton, dancehall, arab tunes, funk, balkan… you name it.

Muguet is the French name for the Lily-of-the-valley, a flower that is currently thriving in Distl’s garden in Ghent, Belgium. It symbolizes new life, purity and innocence. But there is a dangerous side to it, because it is super poisonous! Equally, don’t be fooled by the summery vibe of the first tracks in the mixtape, it takes a dark turn with some typically Belgian 80’s dance music. With the music featured in this mixtape, Distl ended up venturing out to a darker place than he initially imagined…
